Family !The main socialising institution of society

 From Joint family to Nuclear family: (From Daribal to Delhi,  just within Two decades.)

Family is one of the main socialising institutions of the society.The beauty of our Kashmiri  culture lied in its age-long prevailing tradition of the joint family system,  a system under which even extended members of a family like one’s parents, children, the children’s spouses and their offspring, etc. live together. The elder-most, usually the male member is the head in the joint family system who makes all important decisions and rules, whereas other family members abide by it dutifully with full respect.

 I am bred and born in a joint  Kundangar family and thus vividly remember the love n affection of my aunts n uncles  towards me about my upbringing. My father n his brothers continued to live in a joint family for seventeen  long years after the the death of their parents  as such I vividly remember the great events viz: marriages, picnics , Dal jottings , Musical concerts , Peers n Faqirs including Eid days. Even after separation of the main joint family we have had four and later Five Families living in the same house with five kitchens with bath rooms   and a common Hall on the fourth storey of our ancestral house. However the congenial affectionate environment never changed and the family traditions remain unaltered. With the passage of time n change in life styles coupled with expansion of family members  all the five families started moving apart from Eighties  and today the same family extends from  Umarhair, Buchpora, Rangipora  via Habak  and Lalbazar  to Airport road and  to Delhi.After elders have gone now Alhaj Ali Muhammad Kundangar attains the senior position followed by me n that of Muhammad Tahir Jeelani Kundangar among the male members  of Kundangar’s.
